We are supporting the Post Ghalina campaign to turn Manoel Island into a public park, scrapping the 25-year old development plan that would have seen much of it become real estate.
This is a nudge to encourage those of you who have not done so yet to sign the petition that is being submitted to the Maltese government. The deadline for doing so is the 25th of May, so this is a final push. So far over 18,000 signatures have been submitted!
Manoel Island is a peaceful haven in the midst of Malta's most densely populated region. Besides matching 141 Records vision for integrated, citizen-led approaches to improving quality of life in Malta, establishing the Island as a park would encourage both the conservation of existing habitats (for protected species such as the Merill and Maltese Dwarf Garlic) and the opportunity to create new habitats with native species, including halophytic coastal plants.
