DEM is a 90’s-inspired live hip-hop band formed in 2025, rooted in the raw spirit of boom-bap and the musical freedom of jazz. Drawing deep influence from the collective energy of The Soulquarians, the groove craftsmanship of J Dilla, and the poetic storytelling of Nas, DEM bridges golden-era hip-hop with live, improvisational musicianship.
The band features Cips on guitars, JG on bass, Malcolm on keys, and MiCh on drums
a tight rhythm section of jazz-minded players who reinterpret old-school hip-hop beats through rich harmony, pocket-heavy grooves, and spontaneous interplay.
Their sound blends dusty MPC-style rhythms with live swing, Fender-Rhodes textures, warm bass lines, and expressive guitar phrasing.
Joined by MCs Funky Monkey, Lil-Jun, and Slumba, DEM transforms every performance into a one-of-a-kind cypher. The MCs improvise on the spot, feeding off the band’s grooves while the musicians react in real time, stretching beats, breaking down sections, and building dynamic crescendos. No two sets are ever the same.
