August 11, 1973 – On This Date In Hip-Hop, Hip-Hop was born when Kool DJ Herc decided to use two copies of the same record in order to extend the breakbeat at a back to school jam at 1520 Sedgwick Ave in the Bronx. The isolation of the instrumental formed the basis of Hip-Hop music as emcees would speak and later rap over the extended break and BreakDancers would dance to it. Happy 49th birthday to Hip-Hop and THANK YOU DJ Kool Herc

Today and everyday we celebrate you Hip Hop .
